- Dr. William A. Mabie, for nearly 48 years a prominent practicing dentist of Amsterdam, died suddenly Sunday at 12:30 A. M. at his home, 280 Guy Park Avenue.
Dr. Mabie was born at South Valley, Otsego County, September 30, 1880, a son of William H. and Effie (Bellinger) Mabie. He was graduated from the Cobleskill High School and from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at Baltimore, Md., in 1903, coming to Amsterdam in July of that year. He immediately engaged in the practice of dentistry with Dr. P. R. Skinner and this relationship was maintained for a period of seven years. For the same length of time he practiced alone in offices on Guy Park Avenue and East Main Street and in July, 1915, formed a partnership with Dr. John C. Ruman, who became the junior member of the firm. Their offices were located at 39 Market Street and later this partnership was discontinued. Dr. Mabie continuing at the Market Street address up to the present time, Dr. Harold W. Ouderkirk being associated with him in the offices.
Dr. Mabie was learned in the science of his profession and gave lectures on the subject of oral surgery at the Amsterdam City Hospital.
Despite the heavy demand upon his time and attention by his profession, Dr. Mabie had civic and fraternal interests which he faithfully fulfilled. He served as president of the Board of Directors of the Young Men's Christian Association. He was also a member and director of the former Board of Trade, of Amsterdam, which afterward became the Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Mabie was active in Masonic circles for a number of years, being a member of the Blue Lodge
chapter, Commandery and Shrine and was president of the Masonic Club in 1909 and 1910. He served as master of Artisan Lodge, 84, F. and A. M., in 1910 and also as a trustee of the lodge.
A member of the Board of Trustees of the Amsterdam City Hospital, he was also, a member of the Antlers Country Club and his professional relations were with the county, state and national dental associations. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Trustees of that church for a number of years.
June 8, 1910, he married Miss Katherine Taylor of this city who survives together with one son, William J. Mabie, Cincinnati, Oh, one daughter, Mrs. Bruce J. Firkins Jr., Bayside, L. I.; three sisters, Mrs.Elmer Webb, Cherry Valley, Mrs. DeVere Empie, Cooperstown, and Mrs. Wheeler Vickers, Canajoharle, also two grandchildren, Claire and Ellen Kay Mabie, and nieces and nephews.

- Mr. and Mrs. William J. Mabie, Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Amsterdam, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Claire Elizabeth Mabie, to James J. Reilly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel E. Reilly, also of Cincinnati.,
The wedding will take place May 20 in All Saints' Church, Cincinnati.
The prospective bride is a granddaughter of the late Dr. William A. Mabie of this city and Mrs. Mabie, who now resides in Scarsdale, and her maternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Nelson J.Bleau of Amsterdam
