- Miss Sarah Maybee, who taught school in Huntington for 57 years with only one day's absence died in Huntington on Sunday at her home, 58 Sammis Avenue. She was 92 years old. Miss Maybee came to Huntington in 1871 as a substitute teacher in Huntington public schools she was soon made supervising principal of the Main Street Primary School, where she taught three generations of Huntington residents.
Miss Maybee had only scorn for "some of these old teachers" who were critical of modern methods of education. She thought the new schools were excellent and each new generation o f children better than the last.
On her ninetieth birthday, October 4th, 1941 hundreds of Huntington residents whom she had taught, including several elderly persons and their children and grandchildren, paid tribute to Miss Maybee at an open house reception in her home and showered her with gifts
