Roy "Smiley" Mabie, 81, of Mentone, Indiana and formerly of the North Webster area passed at 7:20 pm, Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 at Parkview Randallia Hospital of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Roy Mabie was born on September 8, 1943, in Goshen, Indiana, to the late Gene E. and Louise (Darr) Mabie. Despite never having a driver's license, Roy always found a way to get where he needed to be, often with the help of his friends Pam and Darrel, who would take him to the Burket Bible Church for Sunday service. After church, he would join his sister's family for dinner and a nap.
Roy was often said to have "nine lives." He worked for Masolite Concrete and Champion Door, and he was well-versed in construction projects, especially working with cement. He was a regular at Java Jacks, which later became Egg Town Coffee, where he enjoyed drinking coffee and solving the world's problems.
In his leisure time, Roy loved golfing, fishing, camping with family, playing euchre, and bowling on Thursdays. He was passionate about family reunions and events, earning the endearing title of "everybody's uncle." In 2019, he proudly won the corn hole championship with his brother-in-law, Dwight.
Roy also enjoyed trips to Florida to visit his sister and had a great time riding mopeds. His vibrant personality and countless stories made him a cherished member of the community.
He is survived by his sisters Arlene and husband Dwight Brooke of Mentone and Shirley and husband Larry Stevens of Weeki Wachee, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bob Miller and Dale Mabie.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 8, 2025 at King Memorial Home 101 North Tucker Street Mentone, Indiana with Pastor Mark Eastway officiating.
