Saratoga, New York [9] |
- Benjamin R. Mabey, a crippled veteran of the Civil War and United States pensioner, died at his home, No. 46 Saratoga avenue at 7.30 o'clock last evening, aged 63 years. He served in the Third New Jersey Infantry regiment and after the war came to Rock City Falls to work for the late Chaucey Kilmer and soon after become paralyzed in his lower limbs and an almost helpless invalid. For over thirty years he sat in an invalid's chair unable to walk a single step, yet retained a serene and uncomplaining temperament that endeared him to a large number of friends. He removed to Ballston Spa about twenty years ago. He sustained a stroke of apoplexy about two weeks since.
Mr. Mabey is survived by his widow, who has been his faithful helpmate in his long years of adversity, one son, James L. Mabey, and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Van Buren, both of Ballston Spa.
The funeral of Benjamin R. Mabey will be held at the residence of his family on Saratoga avenue at 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. A.C. Baldwin will officiate, a delegation of Civil War veterans will serve as bearers and he will be buried in the Village cemetery.
