17 Nov 2016 [10] |
- Betty Jean Mabie (nee Myrick), 87, died on Nov. 11, 2016, and George William Mabie, 89, on Nov. 12, 2016, in Fort Myers, FL.
George and Betty celebrated 61 years of marriage on Oct. 1. As teachers of life, together they combined their creativity, compassion, and energy on their quest to share their joy of life. Betty, born in Maplewood, was a loving mom, gifted artist, and special friend to many. She worked as a commercial artist for McGraw Hill and later published two children's books. While raising a family, she also worked as the creative and administrative partner for Mabie Vac-Formed Plastics. Betty's warm energy and her desire to truly get to know and find the best in everyone she met touched so many in an uplifting way. Born in Detroit, George was a devoted dad, professional engineer, and entrepreneur. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Rolla, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and then served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. In 1954 he started his own business, Mabie Vac-Formed Plastics. Advocate of "projects" and hopeful inventions, believer in the power of positive thinking, George enriched the lives of family, friends, and all who knew him.
Loving parents of Glenn (Kris) Mabie, Jill (Glen) Borage, and Scott (Kathleen) Mabie; dear grandparents of Grant (Patty) Mabie, Drew (Tara) Mabie, Michelle (Craig) Meers, Renee Borage, Jeffrey Borage, Ryan Mabie, and Hannah Mabie; great-grandparents of Anne and Claire Mabie.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie and Carl Myrick, and her dear sister Sally (Jerry) Krieg. George was the loyal brother of Paul (the late Dorothy) Mabie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Paul Mabie, sister Francine (Russell) Haefner, and brothers Ted (Geneva) and Robert (Jean) Mabie.
They will be deeply missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many dear friends they made in St. Louis, Fort Myers, and Nestor Falls, Ontario.
