- Mrs Flossie Shader wife of Ralph Shader of Bellvale, died in Linn Hospital at Sussex, NJ, Thursday, early evening, frrom serious burns, which she had received that morning. She was 19 years, 4 months and nine day[s old]. Mrs Shader, it is reported, poured kerosene on the kindling in the kitchen stove, thinking that the fire was out, only to have the flames bite back at her to the can she was holding, which exploded, covering her with flaming liquid. Mrs Shader thought her husband, who was out looking after the farm chores, had forgotten to turn on the drafts, and that the fire had burned out in the night, and she sought to rekindle it, causing the above tragedy.
The family physician, Dr Uptegrove of Vernon was summoned and on arrival he took her to Linn Hospital at Sussex, where death came about 5 o'clock.
