  	In 1929 Gertrude and her family saw that Adolf Hitler was coming to power in Germany, so her father took the family, packed what few belongings they could take aboard ship, and landed in South America. They lived among the Indians until they could be sponsored to enter the U.S. In 1930 they entered the U.S., arriving in Pontiac, MI. She went to night school and received her citizenship c. 1950. She helped Kenneth raise his four children plus two of her own, Frances and Albert, helped him work at some jobs. They bought property in Florida and resided in a Trailer on Pine Island near Ft. Myers. They then moved to Ridge Manor to be near his eldest daughter, Janet.
