- Lucile M. Lawton, 95, of 6367 Hyde Flats Rd, Black Creek, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Absolut of Houghton on Friday, August 03, 2012 after a brief illness.
Born on May 25, 1917, in Cuba, NY she was a daughter of Paul D. and Cecile German Mabey. On September 17, 1938, in Cuba, New York she married Daniel B. Lawton who predeceased her on January 4, 2004. She was the oldest and sole survivor of her family.
Lucile was a graduate of the former Cuba Central School Class of 1936. She was one of the first employees of Acme Electric, but later went to work for Cuba Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide, retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Lawton was a long time active member of the Black Creek Baptist Church and was always involved with the missionary society. She held several offices including past president of the Daughters of the Union Veteran's, was a member of the Home Bureau, Cuba-Rushford Alumni Association, Cuba Historical Society, was a 4-H Leader and was a former member of the New Hudson Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. For several years she was the New Hudson Town Supervisor.
This past summer she was the oldest member that attended the Black Creek Community Picnic. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and entertaining friends and family in her home. For the past several years she was a resident at the Absolut of Houghton and always cherished the friendships and care she received during her stay.
She is survived by her children, David (Janice) Lawton of Bolivar, Julia (James) Tait of Elma, Donald (Donna) Lawton of New Market, TN, Barbara (Noble) Brann, Jr. of Callao, Virginia, and John (Ann) Lawton of Watsontown, PA; her gandchildren, Mark (Laurie), Bryan, Lori Jo, Steven (Sherri), Elizabeth (Timothy), Christopher (Heidrum), Lisa (Ben), Troy, Michael, Paula (Duane), Eric (Kimberly), Becky (Fred), and Jillian (Bill); 28 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brother Arthur P. Mabey, and two sisters Marjorie Elling and Ernestine Green.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 10-11:00 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Roger White and Rev. John Asquith, will co officiate.
Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
