- Barbara Jean Mabey, 86-year-old Oakley resident, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in Idaho Falls.
She was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Acil Leon and Ella Lorraine Petty. She spent her early life in Mammoth, Utah, and graduated from Juab High School.
Barbara served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission, where she met Donald L. Mabey. They were married on June 5, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. Throughout her life she was an active church member and served in many capacities. She avidly pursued crafts, sewing and gardening. She made dolls and stuffed animals for her grandchildren. Her most prized dolls were shown at doll shows. She was a charter member of the riding group, the Lady Vigilantes. Yet, above all she was a homemaker and loving mother. Joy in her life came from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Laroy (Donna) Mabey of Oakley; two daughters, Charie (Ron) Hulse of Idaho Falls, and Debbie (Dave) Mayne of Weatherby, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Oldfield of Aberdeen; a brother, Leon Petty of West Covina, Calif.; a sister, Patricia Armstrong of Salem, Ore.; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald on April 21, 2001; and a son, Barry on August 7, 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at the Oakley Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 301 N. Center, with Bishop Randy Hardy officiating. Burial will be in the Marion Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
