| Anecdote |
- He was a farmer in S. Westerlo, Albany Co., N.Y. in 1837, then in 1856 moved to Camden, Oneida Co., N.Y. and bought a farm in south Camden from Riley Scovel. The Mabie home was built in 1800 by William Stevens. Steven continued to farm until 1877 when he sold the farm to Rufus Tuthill and moved to Kansas. Weldon Hague wrote that Steven was an enterprising farmer and a good citizen. His real estate holdings in 1870 were valued at $6,500. His granddaughter, Kate Jane Hague, remarked that her grandfather was said to have itchy feet and always looking for greener pastures.
