- MRS. EDGAR F. HAYT, 73, DIES EARLY SUNDAY
FUNERAL HELD ON TUESDAY
Life-long Resident of Patterson Succumbs Following Illness of Several Weeks.
The death of Mrs. Hattie Germond Hayt, aged 73, beloved wife of Edgar F. Hayt, of the Big Elm district in Patterson, and mother of Frank Hayt, clerk of the board of supervisors, occurred on Sunday morning, Nov. 8, 1936, at her home, following an illness of several weeks. Stricken suddenly with a cerebral hemorrhage, it was thought by the family and physicians that perhaps she might overcome her illness but as the days wore on it became apparent to all that the end was approaching slowly, but until late last week hope was sustained. Mrs. Hayt was born in Patterson on October 8, 1873, the daughter of Ezeck and Caroline Mabie Germond, and spent her girlhood and young womanhood in Patterson. Later upon returning from Teachers College at Albany she became the assistant teacher in Patterson Public School, and many of her pupils who are now leading men and women in Putnam County testify of their love for one whose early example and teachings have been a guiding star throughout the years. On September 6, 1893, she became the wife of Edgar F. Hayt, of the Big Elm district, and shortly after they moved to the old Hayt homestead where they have lived throughout the many years. This home is known throughout a wide area for the hospitality and Christian spirit which has always prevailed. Surviving are her husband, three sons, Harold, Frank and Elmer, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Hughes, and one grandchild. Services were largely attended at the Four Corners Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon. The former pastor, Rev. J. Peters, officiated. Interment was in Milltown Rural Cemetery
