(Witness) oObit | 19 November 1915 | James Francis Hunter was mentioned in the obituary of Maria Adrianna Ives on 19 November 1915 at Carmel, New York; Mrs. Marie Mabie, widow of Henry Mabie, passed away on Saturday evening, Nov. 13, 1915, at the home of her son-in-law, James F. Hunter, in Brooklyn, aged 70 years. Soon after the sudden death of her husband a few years ago, Mrs. Mabie then in falling health, went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs J. F. Hunter, and since a year ago, when the daughter died suddenly, following an operation for appendicitis, she had been tenderly and faithfully cared for at the home of her son-in-law. Failing in body and mental power necessitated the constant attendance of a trained nurse. The deceased was born in Kent, Conn., on Aug. 10th, 1847, and when she was a young girl the family moved to this place when she was united in marriage to Mabie in 1871 and in his long and distinguished career was a public servant she was his close companion. During .her many years as a resident here she made a large circle of friends who will best remember her as the gracious mistress of a home where hospitality and good cheer abounded. A consistent, faithful member of the Presbyterian church, her Christian faith helped her to bear the vicissitudes of life with patience and courage. As a member of the Patterson Grange, the last farewell will, be spoken from truly affectionate hearts. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union with which she early united being one of its charter members here, will hold her name in tender appreciation of her good work. The remains were brought to this village on Tuesday and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church where a large number of her old neighbors and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to one whose memory will ever be an inspiration to all who knew her. Dr. O. S. Dean, a former pastor here, and who perhaps knew her better than anyone else, officiated and in well chosen words paid a most touching tribute to her memory.7 |
