Derald Fewkes Mabey, 75, of Burley, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Oakley the second of eight children of Daniel Leonard and LaVernie Fewkes Mabey. He lived most of his life in Oakley, graduating from Oakley High School in 1939. He filled a two year mission for the LDS Church in the Western States Mission from 1941 to 1943. He married Velma Jean Christensen on April 12, 1952. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 24, 1964. Derald farmed with his father and brothers until the fall of 1957, when he injured his back. In May of 1960 he started working at Burley Truck and Tractor as a mechanic until 1976, when he has badly burned and lost the use of his left hand and arm. Following extensive hospitalization and therapy, he recovered some use of his left hand and arm. In March 1979, he began work as a custodian at Mt. View Elementary School in Burley. He retired in March of 1989.
 Derald was active in the LDS Church, serving as first counselor of the Cassia Stak MIA, and in the Sunday Shool superintendancy, twice in Marion and also for the Oakley ward. He served in the Burley 9th Ward Sunday School Presidency, the as Sunday School president. He fulfilled a two year stake mission and had been teacher/leader of the seventies quorum, was secretary of the seventies, and was the Burley 9th ward camp director in 1979. Derald enjoyed sports and was a certified volleyball official, and helped his wife with the church sports. After his retirement, he continued to enjoy sports by accompanying his wife.
 Survivors include his wife Velma Jean of Burley two sons, Duane and his wife, Kathy of Evergreen, Colo., and Milford and his wife Jenette of Burley; five brothers, Donald and his wife, Barbara of Oakley, Donald and his wife Catherine of Granger, Utah, Paul and his wife, Mae of Oakley, Robert and his wife Marge, of Logan, Utah, and Kent and his wife Janet of Yucaipa, Calif; two sisters, Roxey Mabey White of Bountiful, Utah, and Norma Mabey Rees and her husband Verl of Brier, Wash.; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Samuel Derald Mabey.
 The funeral will be held ... at the Burley LDS Stake Center ..., with Bishop Kim Hansen officiating. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley....

Donald L Mabey, 81 year old Oakley resident died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Ashley Manor Care Center in Burley. He was born June 5, 1919, in Oakley, the son of Daniel Leonard and Lavernie Fewkes Mabey. He graduated from the Oakley Academy. He served in the U. S. Navy and received an Honorable Medical Discharge. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission, where he met Barbara Jean Petty. They were married on June 10, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, and he especially enjoyed working with the youth. He was one of the original members and sang with the Oakley Men's Glee Club, was a charter member of the Oakley Vigilantes, and was President of the Oakley Valley Cattleman's Association. Don was a farmer and rancher all of his life. He loved to raise quality horses and cattle. He enjoyed riding horses and gathering cattle with the Wild Rose Bunch and the Oakley Valley Association. Don enjoyed spending time in the mountains, square dancing, and spending time with his family.Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Oakley; a son and daughter-in-law, Laroy (Donna) Mabey of Oakley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie (Dave) Mayne of Gypsum, Colorado, and Charie (Ron) Hulse of Idaho Falls; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Mabey of Pocatello; four brothers, Paul Mabey, Charles Mabey, Robert Mabey, and Kent Mabey; two sisters, Roxey White and Norma Rees; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Derald Mabey; and a son, Barry Mabey.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Oakley Stake Center, with Bishop Thomas Nilsen, officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery near Oakley. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Wednesday. |
