  	May , 1950 Shank-Doyle Our Lady Chapel of Sacred Heart Catholic church at the University of Notre Dame was the scene at 11 o'clock Saturday morning of Miss Mary Ellen Shank's marriage to Joseph Patrick Doyle. Rev. Charles Michael Carey, C.S.C., performed the service before an altar banked with white snapdragons and palms. Miss Barbara Daly sang, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Mackin at the organ. The bride, who has resided at 820 Park Avenue, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Shank, Berring Springs, MI. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Doyle, 809 East Indiana Avenue, are the parents of the bridegroom. An ivory satin gown was selected by the bride for her marriage. It was styled with a high neckline, bustle back and draped skirt. A satin hat accented with illusion rosettes and seed peals held her finger-tip veil of imported Swiss silk illusion. She carried an ivory prayer book with a white orchid and shower of ivy. The brides's attendants were attired in gowns similar to the bride's. Mrs. Paul McKinney, Indianapolis, sister of the bride and matron of honor, wore lime green satin and carried a bouquet of variegated carnations and ivy showers. The bridesmaids, Miss Phyllis Kroger and Barbara Barrett, were gowned in a coral color and carried yellow carnations. Each wore a matching hat with a shoulder-length veil. John T. Doyle was his brother's best man. Ushers were another brother, Richard D. Doyle and J. Eugene Bartley. Breakfast was served in the Rose Room of the Hotel LaSalle. The reception was held in the Doyle home. When the newlyweds return Sunday from their trip to southern Indiana, they will reside at 611 Portage Avenue. The bride was graduated from John Adams High School. Her husband is a graduate of Nappanee IN High School and the University of Notre Dame. Certificate of Marriage: Church of The Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Indiana This is to certify that Joseph Patrick Doyle and Mary Ellen Shank were lawfully married on the 6th day of May 1950 According to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church and in conformity with the laws of the State of Indiana.
