  	James Harold Coon passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 25, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs after a long illness. He was 76. James was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Maryland, N.Y., the son of Harold and Adelaide (Van Slyke) Coon. He married Betty Jane Mabie on August 23, 1947, in Worcester, N.Y. He was a truck driver for 35 years for numerous companies, retiring in 1989 and moving to Rifle in 1995. He is survived by five sons and seven daughters: Edward and Pat Coon of Sorrento, Fla.; Stephen Coon of Palm Bay, Fla.; Ann and Alan Wetsell of Peyton, Colo.; Susan and Duane Krutz of Fountain, Colo.; David Coon and Arlene and Danny Dent, all of Rifle; Jon and Tracey Coon of Worcester; Karen and Scott Spencer of Wake Forest, N.C.; Sandra Coon of Auburn, N.Y.; Linda Larson of San Antonio; Diane and Steve Rogers of Denver, and Deforest J. and Lynn Coon of Shallotte, N.C. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Coon, and grandsons Aaron Dennis Layman and Kyle Lee Adair. E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester, N.Y., and Rifle Funeral Home are handling arrangements. Cremation and a memorial service will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
