- Mrs Betsy J., wife of Chas. H. Mase, 210 Franklin street, died at her home last Saturday night at 11 o'clock, after an illness of one week. She had been enjoying unusually good health for several months, but one week ago Sunday morning complained of not feeling well, and later in the day the physician called found that she was suffering with a severe attack of pneumonia and pleurisy. Mrs Mase retained possession of her faculties until Wednesday, but thereafter was in a comatose condition most of the time, her death being entirely painless. Betsy J. Mabie was born in Putnam county, New York, April 20th, 1834, and was consequently in the 62d year of her age. Jan 6th 1858, she was married to C. H. Mase and immediately thereafter the young couple came west, locating at Oshkosh, where they remained eleven years, and for the next thirteen years the family lived on a farm in Eden, Fond du Lac county. In 1882 Mr and Mrs Mase and children removed to Stevens Point, making there home on the North Side ever since. The now deceased lady was the mother of eight children, all of whom are still living. Their names and places of residence are as follows: Mrs John Forsythe, McDill; Aug. Mase, city; Mrs Wm Wilcox, Knowlton; Mrs Jos. Derosia, Rhinlander, Mrs P H Maine, John; Levi and Louis Mase, city. All were at the bedside of their mother during her last moments. She also leaves four brothers and a sister in Clark county, this state. The afflicted ones have the sympathy of many friends in their great loss. Mrs Mase being a noble wife and mother, ever anxious for the welfare of her family. Funeral services were conducted at the house at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, by Rev E W ReQua, the remains being afterwards conveyed to their final resting place in the cemetery at McDill. The pallbearers were Henry Vetter, Fred Schaffer, John Perckert, Jas. Murphy, Patrick Splawn and Wm M Treanore.
