- Walter Emmerson Hermes, 76, of Edgewood, Wash., formerly of Versailles, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at his home.
He was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Pekin, Ill., a son of William and Alice Hermes. On Dec. 7, 1952, he was married to his high school sweetheart, Joyce Eggen, who died in 1991.
Mr. Hermes graduated from Pekin High School in 1951. He moved to Juneau, Alaska, with his family in 1960. He worked for the state of Alaska. He retired in 1980. He moved to Versailles, before he moved to Edgewood, where he lived with his son and family.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis Hermes, and his wife, Linnea, of Edgewood, Wash., and Robin Hermes, of Panguitch, Utah; a sister, Clara Mabee, of Pekin, Ill.; four grandchildren, Trista Burns, Creighton, Rory and Jeremy Hermes; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by an infant son, Daniel, and two brothers, Eugene and William Hermes.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenmore Memorial Gardens in Barnett.
