- Joseph Linwood Mabey, 80, a lifelong resident of Malden, died July 15, 2005, at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford after a long illness.
Born in Malden, August 31, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph C.B. and Helen M. (MacCormac) Mabey. Mr. Mabey was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1942. He attended MIT in the fall of 1942, but left in December to join the U.S. Army and fight for his country during World War II. Upon his return home in 1949, he took employment with the Elliot Co. in Cambridge as a machinist. During the 1960s, he went to work for MIT as an engineer. He then went on to work for Lincoln Laboratories, a division of MIT, until his retirement in 1996.
Mr. Mabey was a member of the Quarter Century Club, an organization of past MIT employees.
He is survived by his daughter, Wally Mabey of Arlington; his sister, Elizabeth Wright of Melrose; and his niece, Lesley Wright of Hawaii.
His funeral service was held July 20 from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home of Malden, followed by burial in Forestdale Cemetery, Malden.
