Doug's life was devoted to family and work. He will be greatly missed by his family, his coworkers, and many others in the Seattle area construction industry. Doug was born May 20, 1952 in Seattle to Mary Lou and Archie "Bill" Maybee. He married Mary Melissa Baker in Seattle on Nov. 17, 1991. Doug worked for Anthony Construction Co. in Seattle from 1987 until his death. As project manager and chief estimator for the company, Doug managed many significant projects for The Boeing Company. He also oversaw major projects for Naval Station Everett, King County, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. Doug was involved in several projects that won awards for Anthony Construction, notably the 2004 Society of American Military Engineers Gold Award for the Shore Immediate Maintenance Facility at Naval Station Everett and the 2003 State Historic Preservation Officers Award for Outstanding Achievement in Historic Rehabilitation for restoring the Pioneer Square Pergola. Doug graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1970 and attained the rank of Life Scout in the Boy Scouts. He attended the University of Washington from 1970-74 and received his degree in mechanical engineering in 1980. Before Anthony Construction, he worked at The Massart Company and Mechanical Systems, Inc. He is survived by his wife and mother; sister, Carolyn Burningham (Ed); sister, Sandra Wade; nieces, Denise Burningham, Lisa Burningham, Sonya Bilocerkowycz, and Mary and Elizabeth Wade; aunt, Harriet McNamara; cousins, Patricia and Tom McNamara; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Martha and Dr. Herbert C. Baker; sister-in-law, Ann Baker Mack (Donovan); and brothers-in-law, David Baker (Elizabeth) and Mark Baker. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, at University Presbyterian Church, 4540 15th Ave. N.E., Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Douglas Paul Maybee Memorial Scholarship in Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle.3 |
