Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Carl and Karen Hartwig of Butte, Gordon and Sharon Payne of Tehatchpi; half brother Marcede Kruze of California; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.6 |
(Witness) oObit | 26 October 2010 | Karen Orlo Neidt was mentioned in the obituary of Carl Julius Hartwig on 26 October 2010 at Butte, Montana; Carl Julius Hartwig died Sunday morning, Oct. 24, 2010, in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1935, to Julius and Isabella (Mast) Hartwig in Dillon. He married Karen Neidt Sept. 9, 1956, in Washington, D.C., where he was enlisted in the Navy. After serving at Fort Mead, Md., and in Japan, Carl and Karen returned to Montana where Carl worked various jobs until accomplishing a life-long dream of becoming a pilot. Carl worked as a flight instructor in Dillon and then at Butte Aero in Butte, before becoming a pilot for the Montana Power Co., in 1980 from which he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings in the Butte First Ward. Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen; brothers, Bill Hartwig of Red Rock, Kenneth (Suzie) Hartwig of Belgrade; sister-in-law, Chari (Gordon) Payne of Whitehall; children, Janis (Dan) Woodards of Butte, Pat (Annie) Hartwig of East Helena, Kym (Walt) Lewis of Ammon, Idaho, Faith (John) Metesh of Butte, Kyle (Megan) Hartwig of Vancouver, Wash., Jake (Lisa) Hartwig of Butte, Alden (Carol) Hartwig of Selah, Wash., Laura (Kevin) Terry of Washougal, Wash., Jon (Chris) Hartwig of Raymond, Ohio, and Jennifer (Tyler) Fleming of Butte. Carl had 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3000 Four Mile Road, Butte, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at 3 p.m. in the Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon.7 |

I remember frantically hand cranking my grandfather's old centrifuge to seperate blood cells to cross-match and transfuse. We got him as far as the rickety old elevator in Bozeman Deaconess Hospital where he died on the way to the operating room."4,5 |

He was born Aug. 10, 1935, to Julius and Isabella (Mast) Hartwig in Dillon. He married Karen Neidt Sept. 9, 1956, in Washington, D.C., where he was enlisted in the Navy. After serving at Fort Mead, Md., and in Japan, Carl and Karen returned to Montana where Carl worked various jobs until accomplishing a life-long dream of becoming a pilot. Carl worked as a flight instructor in Dillon and then at Butte Aero in Butte, before becoming a pilot for the Montana Power Co., in 1980 from which he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings in the Butte First Ward. Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen; brothers, Bill Hartwig of Red Rock, Kenneth (Suzie) Hartwig of Belgrade; sister-in-law, Chari (Gordon) Payne of Whitehall; children, Janis (Dan) Woodards of Butte, Pat (Annie) Hartwig of East Helena, Kym (Walt) Lewis of Ammon, Idaho, Faith (John) Metesh of Butte, Kyle (Megan) Hartwig of Vancouver, Wash., Jake (Lisa) Hartwig of Butte, Alden (Carol) Hartwig of Selah, Wash., Laura (Kevin) Terry of Washougal, Wash., Jon (Chris) Hartwig of Raymond, Ohio, and Jennifer (Tyler) Fleming of Butte. Carl had 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3000 Four Mile Road, Butte, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at 3 p.m. in the Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon.5 |
