He was a member of the Scotia United Methodist Church and the church of Worship commission. A member of the Scotia Kiwanis Club, her served as club secretary for more than 30 years. Mabee was past president of the Gold and Silver Club and was a member of the board of directors. He was also vice president of the Scotia Relief Association. State police said Mabee, a driver for McCormick's Highway. Transportation Inc., 151 Erie Blvd., was headed west when his vehicle left the Thruway on a left curve, plunged off the right shoulder of the highway and crashed down an embankment into several trees where it caught fire. Mabee's burned body was removed from the wreckage about two hours after the accident Funeral arrangements are being made by the victim's uncle directors of the Mabee Funeral Home; A native of Schenectady, Mabee graduated from Scotia-Glenville High. School and served several years in the Air Force. He had been employed by the trucking firm for about four years. oObit* | The obituary of Helen May Dawson read: Helen May Dawson Mabee, 90, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 26 at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Scotia, New York. Her sons and family members were at her side. She was born May 4, 1919 in Schenectady, daughter of the late John and May Larrabee Dawson. She was educated in the Scotia school system. Helen continued to be a resident of Scotia, raising her family on Cuthbert Street. She is predeceased by: husband of 54 years John Mabee Sr. 1993, her beloved son James "Jimmy" Mabee 1968, sisters, Evelyn Cusack 1975, and Marion Christopher 2008, a brother, Lawrence Dawson 2006, and son-in-law Gordon Smith 2006. Helen is Survived by sister, Gloria Dawson Leo of Rotterdam Jct., her children; John W. Mabee (June) of Vestal, NY, daughter-in-law, Maycashion Litts of Scotia, NY, Susan Mabee Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gary D. Mabee (Kim) of Scotia, NY, and Sally Mabee Owen (Jeffrey) of Weaver, Alabama. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Craig, Garrett, Bryant, and Brent Mabee, Cimmie Mabee, Shane Litts, Christopher and Stephanie Smith, Amanda and Jonathan Mabee, Janay, Amy, and Jeffrey Owen, and 16 great grandchildren: Robert, Joshua, John, Joseph, Bryant John, Mason, and Jacob Mabee, Genevieve and Gabrielle Smith, Jena, Viktor, and Jaylan Lenchanko, Rainy and Andre' Potts, Alexandra and Colin Hope, and many nieces and nephews that she loved so much. She was devoted to her family. Her joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow. She loved cooking for family members, gardening, painting, crocheting, playing cards with Addie and Arlene, and going to craft shows with her sister Gloria. She believed that, patience is a virtue and love never fails. The family would like to thank: Dr. Chen Jung-Wen for his dedication to the care and comfort for our mother, and the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center staff, for the daily love and support they shared with our mother and family members. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 1, 2009, 10 - 11 a.m. at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home at 1 Mohawk Avenue Scotia, N.Y. A service to celebrate the life of Helen Mabee will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dana Carroll, Pastor of Scotia United Methodist Church will be officiating. State police said Mabee, a driver for McCormick's Highway. Transportation Inc., 151 Erie Blvd., was headed west when his vehicle left the Thruway on a left curve, plunged off the right shoulder of the highway and crashed down an embankment into several trees where it caught fire. Mabee's burned body was removed from the wreckage about two hours after the accident Funeral arrangements are being made by the victim's uncle directors of the Mabee Funeral Home; A native of Schenectady, Mabee graduated from Scotia-Glenville High.
