Hunt was born in Sussex County, New Jersey, February 7, 1825, and died March 15, 1888, at his residence in Martinsville, Indiana. He and Miss Rachel Mabee were married August 1, 1846. They were parents of nine children, three of whom survive him. Mrs. Hannah L. Cunning, their only daughter, was the wife of Judge A. M. Cunning. Mrs. Cunning, after a lingering illness, died May 17, 1887. A son died March 4, 1888. Mr. Hunt moved from New Jersey to Ohio, where he remained less than one year. He then came to Indiana, where he has resided for more than 33 years. He was a worthy member of the Fraternity of Odd Fellows. He united with the M.E. Church in January 1858. He was a carpenter by trade. He was an honest man, quiet and unobtrusive, adhering closely to his own obligations he secured many abiding friendships. Proverbially kind and indulgent he was a model hus-band and an honored father. He was ready to die. He had made ample preparations long before his disease for this hour. His widow survives him and for her ex-traordinary patience and endurance in the long vigils at the bedsides of her husband and son, has the sym-pathy of all. His funeral took place March 18, from the M.E. Church, and was attended by a very large num-ber of sympathizing friends. The sermon was preached by the Pastor of the Church from Zachariah 14:7 At Evening Time it Shall be Light. The Odd Fellows then took charge and conducted their services very impressively and laid the worn out body of our brother, beside his little children, at Hill Dale Cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.2 |

oObit | 22 May 1906 | On 22 May 1906 at Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana, the obituary of William B. Mabee read: William Mabee, the oldest child and son of John and Ann Mabee, of Sussex County, New Jersey was born in said county and state on March 8, 1822. He was the only son of a family of five children all of whom are now dead except two sisters, Annie Bowdoin of Rahway, New Jersey, and Susan Williams of Chicago, Illinois. He came from New Jersey to Defiance, Ohio in 1844, returned to New Jersey in 1846 and in November 1846 returned again to Defiance, Ohio. He was a Mexican soldier and volunteered under President Polk's administration. He enlisted at Toledo, Ohio, in March 1847, and went to Mexico with the army. He was wounded at battle in Mexico on August 20, 1847 and was in the hospital six weeks. (He) was finally honorably discharged from the service in the city of Mexico on December 9, 1847, when he returned to New Jersey. He was married in Sussex County, New Jersey, his old home, to Catharine Peters on Nov. 2, 1849, where his oldest child, Joseph Mabee was born. He moved with his young family about March 20, 1854 to Defiance, Ohio where he lived till in the fall of that year. He then started for Indiana and came by canal boat from Defiance, Ohio to Peru, Indiana and finally landed in Martinsville, Indiana, November 17 of that year. He lived in Martinsville till December 1865, when he bought the farm three miles northeast of Martinsville, and lived there until June 28, 1898, at which time he and his wife went to live with their daughter, Mrs. Eli Thomas, near the place of their old country home. They lived with the other daughter, Mrs. Ezra Dyer, where his most estimable wife died October 3, 1901 and where he remained until his death, which occurred at 1:15 a.m. Monday, May 21, 1906. He was a carpenter by trade and many of the oldest and most substantial and prominent residences and other buildings in the city of Martinsville are the work of his hands. He was elected assessor of Washington Township in 1882 and served a full term. His official life was one marked with nobility, integrity and honor, both to himself and to the people whom he served. He and his wife were blessed with eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls, three dying in infancy and one daughter Katie who married George Bergman, died near the old home about 22 years ago. The remaining children two boys and two girls, namely: Jacob Mabee of Indianapolis, Abraham Mabee of Charleston, Illinois, Mrs. Lizzie Thomas, and Mrs. Sarah Dyer reside near the old home place. He left surviving him these four children, fourteen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Such in brief is the life of William Mabee. He was one of the pioneers of this county. He leaves a legacy of a well-spent, long and honorable life. The funeral will be held at the Ezra Dyer home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30. Burial at Hilldale cemetery.17 |

He lived in Martinsville till December 1865, when he bought the farm three miles northeast of Martinsville, and lived there until June 28, 1898, at which time he and his wife went to live with their daughter, Mrs. Eli Thomas, near the place of their old country home. They lived with the other daughter, Mrs. Ezra Dyer, where his most estimable wife died October 3, 1901 and where he remained until his death, which occurred at 1:15 a.m. Monday, May 21, 1906. He was a carpenter by trade and many of the oldest and most substantial and prominent residences and other buildings in the city of Martinsville are the work of his hands. He was elected assessor of Washington Township in 1882 and served a full term. His official life was one marked with nobility, integrity and honor, both to himself and to the people whom he served. He and his wife were blessed with eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls, three dying in infancy and one daughter Katie who married George Bergman, died near the old home about 22 years ago. The remaining children two boys and two girls, namely: Jacob Mabee of Indianapolis, Abraham Mabee of Charleston, Illinois, Mrs. Lizzie Thomas, and Mrs. Sarah Dyer reside near the old home place. He left surviving him these four children, fourteen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Such in brief is the life of William Mabee. He was one of the pioneers of this county. He leaves a legacy of a well-spent, long and honorable life. The funeral will be held at the Ezra Dyer home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30. Burial at Hilldale cemetery.7 |

(Witness) oObit | 30 March 1893 | Susan Mabee was mentioned in the obituary of Rachel Maybee on 30 March 1893 at Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana; Mrs. Rachael Hunt, relict of the late A.W. Hunt of this city, died at the residence of her son, R. V. Hunt, at 76 Chadwick Street, Indianapolis, on Thursday. The remains were brought here for internment at 9:11 Saturday morning and then taken from the depot to the M.E. Church where funeral services were conducted at 9:30 o'clock by Rev. Hurlstone. The internment was in Hill Dale cemetery. Mrs. Hunt was 80 years old. She had been visiting in Indianapolis and had been ill only about 10 days, of pneumonia. She leaves three sons, W. M., R. T. and R. V. Hunt, all of Indianapolis. William Mabee of this city is a brother and a sister, Mrs. Susan Williams, lives in Chicago.6 |

Mabee on 22 May 1906 at Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana; William Mabee, the oldest child and son of John and Ann Mabee, of Sussex County, New Jersey was born in said county and state on March 8, 1822. He was the only son of a family of five children all of whom are now dead except two sisters, Annie Bowdoin of Rahway, New Jersey, and Susan Williams of Chicago, Illinois. He came from New Jersey to Defiance, Ohio in 1844, returned to New Jersey in 1846 and in November 1846 returned again to Defiance, Ohio. He was a Mexican soldier and volunteered under President Polk's administration. He enlisted at Toledo, Ohio, in March 1847, and went to Mexico with the army. He was wounded at battle in Mexico on August 20, 1847 and was in the hospital six weeks. (He) was finally honorably discharged from the service in the city of Mexico on December 9, 1847, when he returned to New Jersey. He was married in Sussex County, New Jersey, his old home, to Catharine Peters on Nov. 2, 1849, where his oldest child, Joseph Mabee was born. He moved with his young family about March 20, 1854 to Defiance, Ohio where he lived till in the fall of that year. He then started for Indiana and came by canal boat from Defiance, Ohio to Peru, Indiana and finally landed in Martinsville, Indiana, November 17 of that year.
