(Mentioned) oObit | 27 June 2002 | He was mentioned in the obituary of of Rhoda Sarah Adams on 27 June 2002 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; DABBS, Rhoda Sarah 1927 -2002 Rhoda Dabbs passed away peacefully as her children held her hands and felt her beautiful and tender spirit leave her, early in the morning of June 21, 2002. To cherish her beautiful soul and to share wonderful memories of her life, Rhoda leaves her loving husband of 25 years James Dabbs; her three children David Stahl (Debi), Dawn Stahl and Geoffrey Dabbs, and the remaining Dabbs family. She is also survived by brothers David Adams (Lynn), Nick Adams (Vera), Ben Adams (Greta); and sisters Esther Hobmaier (Gus), Ruth Mast (Dick) and Grace Olsen. Rhoda suffered for over five years from a painful muscle/nerve disease. Despite her debilitating disease, Rhoda remained positive and the pinnacle of strength for those around her. Through her love of God, she lovingly guided those around her all her life. Her children, all professionals, attribute their inner strength and drive to their mother. She also gave them their grace and tenderness. She achieved her Education Degree and Master of Education with high honours, after the age of 40. She became an inspirational teacher and taught business education at Salisbury Composite High School in Sherwood Park, Alberta for the rest of her career. Gifted with a strong drive, Rhoda always went beyond her call of duty. She and her students started and ran the first high school credit union for which they won a government award. During life, Rhoda would fondly remember and attribute her own strength to growing up during sometimes challenging times as the oldest sister of nine brothers and sisters. Those surviving remain touched by their sister's unfailing love of God and her strength. We all cherish her as Rhoda's loving spirit will continue to surround us throughout our lives. She was united in marriage to Robert Mabie, December 25, 1852. To this union were born 10 children, 3 dying in infancy and Cora at the age of 23 years. She leaves to mourn her departure, 3 sons, 3 daughters. Clara DeGaugh of Hamilton; George of Flint; Alonzo of Flint; Elmira Sommerlott of Angola; Nellie [William] Mabie of Coldwater, Michigan; Zetta Mallory of Elkhart, Ind. and 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. After the death of her husband for a number of years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clara DeGaugh. Since the death of her husband, she had made her home with her son, Alonzo. A friend always in time of need, and generous to a fault, everyone who knew her learned to love her. Call not back the dear departed Anchored safe where storms are o'er On the border land we left her Soon to meet and part no more When we leave this world changes When we leave this world of care We shall find our missing loved ones In our Father's mansion fair.5 |
