On Tuesday evening last week, Mr. James Crockett died at his residence on Wolvin Street, Port Rowan, after an illness of 2 months. He was born on the 17th of April, 1820, in Ireland. He left his home at the age of 11 years and went to sea. He was a sailor for a number of years on fresh and salt waters. He left the sailing business and was in the fishery for a number of years. He has been around this region for 63 years. 58 years Christmas, he married Miss Mabee, daughter of Pellam Mabee, an old pioneer of Turkey Point. He was a resident of Port Rowan for 25 years, and was known and respected by all. Besides his widow, he leaves five sons, Joseph, Cruso and Harry, at Port Rowan, and two in Buffalo, Samuel and William, and one daughter, Mrs. John Sherk, of Simcoe; one daughter, Emma, Mrs. Paterson, and one son, James, predeceased him. He had 22 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, a host of friends also deeply regret his departure, especially the older men of the community, who have regarded him as their companion and friend -- one of the chief repositories of the memories and traditions of the community.5 |

He was an old and well known farmer and leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Fred Maltby, of that town, and three sons, besides a large circle of friends. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church in Rich Valley on Saturday, the Rev. Mr. Martin, of St. Paul, officiating. Interment in the cemetery at Pine Bend.4 |

oObit* | 15 August 1932 | On 15 August 1932 at Saint Paul, Minnesota, the obituary of Irene Alma Woodworth read: Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Maltby, 68 years old, wife of Frederick Maltby of 456 Ohio Street, St. Paul, and for many years residents of Pine Bend, who died at her home Saturday morning at 3:30 o'clock, were held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the late home and at 2:30 o'clock from St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal church in Riverview. Interment was made in Roselawn cemetery. Rev. B.F. Koch of this city conducted the services. Surviving Mrs. Maltby besides her husband are six daughters Mrs. Gordon Horbach of Inver Grove, Mrs. L.W. Bailey of Rich Valley, Mrs. Frank Kneisl. Mrs. M.J. Doffing and Mrs. Clarence Smith of St. Paul and Mrs. Ben Bodec of New York City; also three sons, Wade and Eugene of St. Paul and William of Rich Valley; and three brothers, Albert Woodworth of Breckenridge, Minn., and Freeland and Reed Woodworth living in Oregon. Mrs Maltby was born near the Coates Station, April 18, 1864. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Woodworth, Pioneer residents of Dakota County. She was married to Mr. Maltby of Rich Valley January 17, 1884. They lived at Rich Valley until 14 years ago when they moved to the present address. Mrs Maltby was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal church and was active in all it's departments especially the ladies aid society. She was also an active member of the St. Paul branch of the W.C.T.U. which organization had a part in the funeral service at the church this afternoon. The Royal Neighbors of America and the Forresters are other organizations of which she was a member. While Mrs. Maltby had been in ill health for several years her death was a shock to her family and many friends. She had gone about her work as usual on Friday but early Saturday morning suffered a heart attack which resulted in her death.5 |
