Anecdote William John Hanson was born on June 10 or 12, 1914 in the house built by his great grandfather, Edward, in 1865 on Lot 18, Concession 12, Fullerton Twp. He was the son of David Carlos Hanson and Jenny Lin Cole. In 1917 the family moved to Mitchell, Ont. after a short stay in Western Canada (Saskatoon). John attended Mitchell Public School and Mitchell District High School from 1920 to 1934. In 1929 he played Right Field for the Mitchell Baseball Club, Huron-Perth League Champions and in 1931 he was a Centre Half Back for the Mitchell High School Soccer Team, H.A.A.A. Champions. At the height of the Depression in 1934 he joined the Bank of Montreal in Clinton, Ont. For the next eight years he worked at branches in Stratford, Kitchener, Oakville and Toronto (Dundas and Roncesvalles and Royal York Hotel).
On August 10, 1942 John enlisted in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and served in England until 1946, leaving the army as a Staff Sergeant. After the war he rejoined the bank and moved to Tillsonburg where he married Jean Mabee on August 14, 1948 and his first child, Robert, was born in 1951. The family moved to Toronto on April 1, 1952 where John worked at the Queen and Portland and Armour Heights branches. Holly was born in Toronto in 1953. The family rented apartments at 15 Anglesey Blvd., Apt 112 and 2 Hill Heights Rd., Apt.34 in Etobicoke until 1958 when he purchased a home at 90 Wellesworth Dr. in Etobicoke. In 1961, just after Paul was born, the family moved to Highgate, Kent Co., Ont. and in 1969 to Alvinston, Lambton Co.,Ont. His last branch was in Drumbo, Oxford Co., Ont. where he transferred in 1972.
John retired on January 1, 1975 and John and Jean bought a home at 45Bidwell St. (N 42 51.548'; W 80 43.715') in Tillsonburg, Ont. In his later years John was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease and by the 1990's required extensive care. After Jean suffered a serious heart attack in early January of 2000, John was moved to a nursing home inNorwich, Ontario. In April, 2000 he moved to Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, Ontario and it was there that John passed away in his sleep on June 7, 2000. He was buried in Eden Cemetery, Eden, Ont. on what would have been his 86th birthday.6 
Burial* He and Jean Ina Marietta Mabee were buried at Eden Cemetery, Bayham Township, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. Inscription "HANSON; Jean (Mabee) 1923-2001; Married Aug 14, 1948; W. John Hanson 1914-2000; Parents of Bob, Holley, Paul."7
