oObit5 January 1924  On 5 January 1924 at Peekskill, New York, the obituary of John Mabie read: John Mabie. 2nd, former postmaster and well known citizen died unexpectedly Thursday morning, after a lingering Illness of about a year's duration. He was In his 76th year.
Mr. Mabie was born In Peekskill on January 5, 1848, the son of John and Sarah Hilliker Mabie. His early schooling was obtained in the old yellow school house, District No, 7. on the South street hank and at Drum Hill.
At an early age, Mr. Mabie entered the employ of John R. Denike & Bros. in their dry goods and groceries store on the corner of Central avenue and Division street, where he remained for four years. He then became a clerk for Morris DeSee, who conducted a store on Central avenue for three years. Under the firm name of Mabie & Jewell, Mr. Mabie and Hollis E. Jewell conducted a shoe store where George D. McCutchen is now located. After four years at this location, the business was moved across the street. In two years, Mr. Jewell retired, selling out his interest to John M. Dyckman. The firm name became Mabie & Dyckman. Mr. Mabie retired at the end of the second year arid Mr. Dyckman took over the business.
.On May 1. 1884, Mr. Mabie opened a shoe shop in the Edwin Briggs building on South street, and for fifteen years, until 1899, when he became deputy postmaster, he conducted a shoe store there, until 1899 when he sold it to Alfred Posey.
Mr. Mabie in his younger days was very influential in the affairs of the Republican party. He was a delegate to conventions, town, county, assembly and district, senatorial and congressional for many years. He was a member of the Republican town committee for over a quarter of a century and secretary the majority of that time. He was elected assessor of the town of Cortlandt. on March 29. 1887, by a plurality of fourteen votes over William H Clinton. On March 2, 1890, he was re-elected, defeating Luther B. Tuttle by a plurality of 405. He was nominated for a third term of three years in 1893, but was defeated by Eugene B. Hill by thirty-five votes. The following year, he was elected assessor over Henry Murphy, by 985 votes. He served nine years in all as assessor.
He was also assessor of the village for a number of years. On March 2, 1886, he was elected village assessor by 254 votes over John Ames. In 1889, he was renominated and was defeated by the narrow margin of four votes by Harvey M. Washburn. The following year. March 4, 1890, he was reelected assessor over Thomas A. Whitney by 235 plurality. In 1893. he was renominated and again elected, defeating John Clark by 249 plurality. He served nine years as village assessor.
He was appointed deputy postmaster by David O. Montross, postmaster, in 1899, and assumed his duties on March 16, of that year. Mr Montross died before his term expired and was succeed by John L. Silleck, In 1903. Mr. Mabie became postmaster and served for two terms.
On November 26, 1871. Mr. Mabie was married to Miss Emma C. Christian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Christian. Mrs. Mabie died on January 11, 1918. A daughter, Mrs. Thomas M. McCoy, survives.
Mr. Mabie was a life member of Cortlandt Lodge, No. 34, F. and A, M„ He was initiated on January 22, 1880, passed February 5, 1860, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on February 19,1880. On March 3, 1910, he was granted a lifetime membership. At one time, he was very much interested in lodge work and held several offices. His Grand Lodge number was 188,785 and his lodge number 200.
On December 4, 1866, Mr Mabie joined Cortlandt Hook and Ladder Company, No. 1. He became a member of the Peekskill Fire department on January 8, 1867. On January 4, 1876, he resigned. He rejoined as an active member in March 4, 1879, and resigned on May 2, 1882 On April 1, 1902, Mr. Mabie rejoined as an associate member. He resigned on February 2, 1923.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at half past two, and will be in the charge of Cortlandt Lodge and A. M. The interment will be in Hillside.2 
Burial* He was buried at Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, Westchester County, New York.15

(Mentioned) oObit5 January 1924 Lucy Howard McCoy was mentioned in the obituary of of John Mabie on 5 January 1924 at Peekskill, New York; John Mabie. 2nd, former postmaster and well known citizen died unexpectedly Thursday morning, after a lingering Illness of about a year's duration. He was In his 76th year.
Mr. Mabie was born In Peekskill on January 5, 1848, the son of John and Sarah Hilliker Mabie. His early schooling was obtained in the old yellow school house, District No, 7. on the South street hank and at Drum Hill.
At an early age, Mr. Mabie entered the employ of John R. Denike & Bros. in their dry goods and groceries store on the corner of Central avenue and Division street, where he remained for four years. He then became a clerk for Morris DeSee, who conducted a store on Central avenue for three years. Under the firm name of Mabie & Jewell, Mr. Mabie and Hollis E. Jewell conducted a shoe store where George D. McCutchen is now located. After four years at this location, the business was moved across the street. In two years, Mr. Jewell retired, selling out his interest to John M. Dyckman. The firm name became Mabie & Dyckman. Mr. Mabie retired at the end of the second year arid Mr. Dyckman took over the business.
.On May 1. 1884, Mr. Mabie opened a shoe shop in the Edwin Briggs building on South street, and for fifteen years, until 1899, when he became deputy postmaster, he conducted a shoe store there, until 1899 when he sold it to Alfred Posey.
Mr. Mabie in his younger days was very influential in the affairs of the Republican party. He was a delegate to conventions, town, county, assembly and district, senatorial and congressional for many years. He was a member of the Republican town committee for over a quarter of a century and secretary the majority of that time. He was elected assessor of the town of Cortlandt. on March 29. 1887, by a plurality of fourteen votes over William H Clinton. On March 2, 1890, he was re-elected, defeating Luther B. Tuttle by a plurality of 405. He was nominated for a third term of three years in 1893, but was defeated by Eugene B. Hill by thirty-five votes. The following year, he was elected assessor over Henry Murphy, by 985 votes. He served nine years in all as assessor.
He was also assessor of the village for a number of years. On March 2, 1886, he was elected village assessor by 254 votes over John Ames. In 1889, he was renominated and was defeated by the narrow margin of four votes by Harvey M. Washburn. The following year. March 4, 1890, he was reelected assessor over Thomas A. Whitney by 235 plurality. In 1893. he was renominated and again elected, defeating John Clark by 249 plurality. He served nine years as village assessor.
He was appointed deputy postmaster by David O. Montross, postmaster, in 1899, and assumed his duties on March 16, of that year. Mr Montross died before his term expired and was succeed by John L. Silleck, In 1903. Mr. Mabie became postmaster and served for two terms.
On November 26, 1871. Mr. Mabie was married to Miss Emma C. Christian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Christian. Mrs. Mabie died on January 11, 1918. A daughter, Mrs. Thomas M. McCoy, survives.
Mr. Mabie was a life member of Cortlandt Lodge, No. 34, F. and A, M„ He was initiated on January 22, 1880, passed February 5, 1860, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on February 19,1880. On March 3, 1910, he was granted a lifetime membership. At one time, he was very much interested in lodge work and held several offices. His Grand Lodge number was 188,785 and his lodge number 200.
On December 4, 1866, Mr Mabie joined Cortlandt Hook and Ladder Company, No. 1. He became a member of the Peekskill Fire department on January 8, 1867. On January 4, 1876, he resigned. He rejoined as an active member in March 4, 1879, and resigned on May 2, 1882 On April 1, 1902, Mr. Mabie rejoined as an associate member. He resigned on February 2, 1923.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at half past two, and will be in the charge of Cortlandt Lodge and A. M. The interment will be in Hillside.11 
Death*21 June 1964 Lucy Howard Mabie died on 21 June 1964 at Peekskill, Westchester County, New York, at age 87.12

Mr. Mabie was born in the Mabie home on Brown street, Peekskill, November 25 1878. the son of the late Dorlin Mabie and Mrs. Mabie. Practically his entire life was spent in Peekskill. For a long time he was in the employ of the New York Central Railroad as trainman and later conductor. At the time of his death he was in the employ of the Harvey Spring Service Co.
Mr. Mabie had been a member of Cortlandt Lodge No. 34, since March 20. 1902.     
He Is survived by his mother Ida Lockwood Mabie and one brother Harold D. Mabie.7

(Mentioned) oObit19 March 1927 Harold Dorlin Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of of Fred Clifford Mabie on 19 March 1927 at Peekskill, New York; Fred C. Mabie, of 225 Union avenue died suddenly in Dr. Stanton Curry's office late Thursday night of angina pectoris. He had been in attendance at Cortlandt Lodge No. 34 F, & A. M., of which he was organist. Shortly afterward while with Walter H. Sager on the street Mr. Maine complained of feeling ill. They went to the office of Dr. E deM. Lyon who was out on a call, They then went to Dr. Curry's office and had just entered when Mr. Mabie collapsed and passed away.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Sunday, 2 p.m. at the home of his mother 225 Union avenue, in charge of Cortlandt Lodge No. 34, F. & A. M.
Mr. Mabie was born in the Mabie home on Brown street, Peekskill, November 25 1878. the son of the late Dorlin Mabie and Mrs. Mabie. Practically his entire life was spent in Peekskill. For a long time he was in the employ of the New York Central Railroad as trainman and later conductor. At the time of his death he was in the employ of the Harvey Spring Service Co.
Mr. Mabie had been a member of Cortlandt Lodge No. 34, since March 20. 1902.     
He Is survived by his mother Ida Lockwood Mabie and one brother Harold D. Mabie.5

Anecdote "Harold Dorlin Mabie, … was born in Beaufort, So. Carolina, Feb 19, 1892, the son of Dorlin Mabie and Ida May Lockwood Mabie. He came to Peekskill in 1896 when his parents, who were Peekskill people, returned here from their twelve year sojourn in the South. He received his scholastic and business training from Drum Hill School, from which he was graduated in 1911, and from Pace Institute and Columbia University, New York City. In 1911 he became a member of the staff of the Westchester County Register’s Office and so continued until 1913, when he became a salesman with Bethlehem Steel Company, New York City and so continued until 1917. On May 25th of that year he enlisted in the United States Navy in World War I and served as member of the United States Naval Reserve with the rank of Ensign until March 17, 1919, when he received his honorable discharge and resumed his work with the Bethlehem Steel Company in which he continued until October, 1920 when he became Secretary and Director of the Alden Coal Mining Company. He continued with the Alden Coal Company from October 1920 until January, 1926, when he returned to Bethlehem Steel Co. … .
He has long been active in the religious, fraternal and public life of Peekskill. He was President of the Epworth League of the First Methodist Church in 1911 and 1912 and has been since December 20, 1947, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peekskill Young Men’s Christian Association. He is a member of the Cortland Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 and was its President in 1922. He is a member of Cortland Lodge No. 34, Free and Accepted Masons, and was its Master in 1923. He is a Past Patron of Cortland Chapter No. 532, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Consistory of New York City, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. On Nov. 8, 1949 he was elected a member of the Common Council of the City of Peekskill, and served for a four year term, from 1950 and including 1953. At the meeting of the Common Council on Dec. 22, 1953, his fellow members unanimously adopted a Resolution testifying to the high esteem in which he is held by the people of Peekskill and expressing their appreciation of the consistent loyalty with which he had served the City and the time and service he had rendered as Councilman, "having been at all times motivated in his official capacity by the sole question as to what was the best for the progress and welfare of the City". As a further evidence of their esteem, the Mayor and Councilmen also presented him with a Councilmanic Badge.      
He is a Methodist and a member of the First Methodist Church. In politics he is a Republican. His avocations are fishing and photography. His sports have been hunting, baseball, football, hockey, basketball and bowling.      
On October 17, 1936, he married Miss Mildred Elizabeth Tucker. They have three children: Harold Dorlin Mabie, Jr; Barbara Ann Mabie and James Tucker Mabie.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Lancaster Mabie; two children, Dorlin and Rebecca Dawn; his mother, Mrs. Mildred Mabie; a brother, James T. Mabie, and a sister, Mrs. Barbara Darling.
Funeral services were conducted at the United Methodist Church of Peekskill. The Rev. Richard Guice, pastor, and Pastor Clayton B. Glickert of the Yorktown Assembly of God officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, 313 N. James St., Peekskill. In lieu of flowers, donations to the United Methodist Church of Peekskill or the Yorktown Assembly of God would be appreciated.7 
Death*18 August 1998 Mildred Elizabeth Tucker died on 18 August 1998 at Riverside, Fairfield County, Connecticut, at age 93.8
