13 Dec 1963, Galesburg Register-Mail (Galesburg, IL) Death Claims Rev. Lewis - Rev. James Lee Lewis, 74, a prominent Baptist minister and missionary, died Thursday in Fort Wayne, Ind. He had been bedfast several years following a stroke. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis resided on Beecher Avenue in Galesburg prior to moving to Fort Wayne. Rev. Lewis was born in Quincy June 20, 1889, received his primary and secondary education in the Quincy area. He also studied at the University of Chicago, Harvard College and the Andover-Newton Seminary. He received his doctor of theology degree from the Central Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kan. Served in Burma - Rev. Mr. Lewis was for many years a missionary in Burma, where a high school is named after him. He was pastor of churches in Massachusetts, Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan. He was retired at the time of his death. Surviving are his widow, Lilly; another son, James Lee Lewis Jr. of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. George Nelson of Columbus, Ind., and Mrs. Paul Lindskog of Minneapolis, Minn. and two brothers, Elwood Lewis of Tampa, Fla., and Harold Lewis of Quincy. Private funeral services will be held Saturday at the D.O McComb and Sons Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Fort Wayne.4,5 |
