The Demarest book that I have suggests that Elsie Eckert may have been a Demarest cousin, but I have not verified that.1

Helen's family had a dairy farm in Sullivan County, NY. She had moved to New York City as a young woman and got a job working in a shop on 5th Avenue, owned by her future husband's mother, Marie Louise Collart, an entrepreneur who had shops in Paris, Brussels and New York City selling Belgian lace clothing. So Helen left the farm and married a cosmopolitan guy and they and their family settled in Spring lake, New Jersey one block from the ocean in a great Victorian styled house. Her granddaughter said she was a wonderful, smart and warm woman and a great cook and also great in the garden and on the sewing machine.2
