Inquest Ordered In Brookfield Man's Death
A 72-year-old Brookfield resident, Mr. George MacDuff, was found dead at 7:20 yesterday morning about one mile from his home.
Coroner Dr. I. J. Yeo was summoned and upon his arrival ordered that an inquest be held. A jury was empanelled and viewed the body after which the inquest was adjourned until next Tuesday at 2.30 p.m. It will be held in the Brookfield Hall.
The result of the autopsy, which was held yesterday, will not be officially known until next Tuesday, but Superintendent N. J. Anderson of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police informed the Guardian last night that there was no suspicion of foul play.
The late Mr. MacDuff, who had no family, lived with Mr. John McLeod about a mile outside the village of Brookfield which is located 10 miles west of Charlottetown.
The jury comprises C. Stewart (foreman), A. Sentner, R. Andrews, J. McLeod, R. Wood, H. Sentner and B. McLeod.1

Caribou, Me., March 30 -- Frank McDuff, 52, of Washburn was killed today and two companions were injured when their automobile crashed through a guard rail at the Bailey Mitchell bridge here and plunged into Caribou stream.
The injured were Osborne Stairs and Kenneth 'Tige' Stevens of Caribou.1,4

Elsie was born April 19, 1914, in Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of Frank and Nellie (Tarbox) McDuff. She was brought into the United States at a very early age and spent most of her life in Perham and Washburn, attending Washburn schools. After her marriage to her love, Athil Ira Clayton, she followed him faithfully in farm life and spent many joyous years doing all that went with it, always speaking and remembering the 'Randall Farm.' She loved the outdoors and being busy. She spent many hours picking every berry that grew, digging dandelions, fiddleheads, etc. She also loved flowers and plants and was so anxious for spring every year. After raising her six children, Elsie entered work at Potato Service and becoming an assistant forelady. She spent many happy years there making many special friends. She also worked in the cafeteria at the Washburn Elementary School for a period of time. She was very talented and could do just about anything. She made crafts, did sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing the piano and especially canning and cooking. Many family members and friends made trips to her house just to get a taste of her homemade goodies, especially her doughnuts. Elsie and her husband, Athil loved basketball and attended every ballgame they could, including all the tournaments with their special friends, Ella and Hadley Flannigan. Their loyalty earned them a lifetime pass to the games at Washburn High School. Elsie was also a regular attendant at the Advent Christian Church in Wade.
She is survived by her six children, Darlene McHatten and husband, Dana, of Castle Hill, Dolores Woodman and husband, Ellsworth, Athil 'Sonny' Clayton Jr., Fred Clayton and wife, Bonnie Ann, Robert Clayton and wife Brenda, Paul Clayton and companion, Mary Jane, all of Washburn; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren; one sister, Margaret Campbell of Washburn. Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Athil on Aug. 1, 2004. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Anna Clayton; and a grandchild, Vickie Clayton; seven sisters, Ruth McDuff, Mary Marr, Violet McIntosh, Nellie Humphrey, Wilda Spooner, Irene (Spooner) Anderson and Frances Boulier. She was also predeceased by a special niece, Wilma (Perk) Corey; and sister-in-law, Pauline Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at the Dunntown Advent Christian Church, in Washburn, with the Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be in Crouseville Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dunntown Advent Christian Church.1,2

She was born March 20, 1915, in Ashland, one of eight daughters of Frank and Nellie (Tarbox) McDuff. After the death of her husband at an early age, she went to work at Libby's IGA and later to Taterstate Frozen Foods and McCains in Washburn. She was an active member of the Washburn Pentecostal Church for the past 30 years, attending the Ladies Prayer Group and the WHMC. Once a month she attended the Joy Fellowship hosted by the Monticello church. Mrs. Humphrey was known as the 'official coffee maker' for most of the social functions at the church. She was an avid Washburn Beaver fan attending all their basketball games, and enjoyed knitting and giving away, mittens and dish cloths and even having a good game of Skip-Bo.
Surviving her are three sons, Raymond A. Humphrey and his wife, Ardis, Wayne T. Humphrey and his wife, Joyce, Wendell C. Humphrey and his wife, Christine, all of Washburn; two daughters, Eloise M. Jones of Corinna, and Penny L. Richardson of Washburn; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Clayton and Margaret Campbell, both of Washburn; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Humphrey; two daughters, Marolyn Vashon and Maureen Rogers; a grandson, Robert Jones; a great-grandson, Brad Davis; a son-in-law, Sheldon Richardson five sisters, Mary Marr, Wilda Spooner and Irene Spooner, Violet McIntosh and Frances Beaulier.
Relatives and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Washburn Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Spring interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Washburn. She was predeceased by a son Darrell and a sister Wilda Spooner. Friends may call at the Graves Funneral Home, Presque Isle 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Washburn Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Frederrick Henderson offociation. Her life was devoted to her family, friends and church. She spent her life serving others; this included her love of cooking, which gave her joy to share with others. She was a lifelong member of Washburn Pentecostal Church, where she served in various capacities.
Margaret was predeceased by her dear husband of 48 years; and eight sisters, Mary Marr, Elsie Clayton, Violet McIntosh, Nellie Humphrey, Wilda Spooner, Irene Spooner, Francis Beaulier; and an infant sister. She is survived by five sons and their wives, Dick and Rachel Campbell of Mapleton, Dwayne and Jeannette Campbell of York, Pa., Dale and Brenda Campbell of Washburn, Terry and Donna Campbell of Milford, Vaughn Jr. and Sharon Campbell of El Dorado, Calif; three daughters and their husbands, Patsy and Fred Flewelling of Crouseville, Debbie and Dean Bird of Crouseville and Cheryl and Rodney Sperry of Washburn.
Grammie Campbell was well loved by her 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A committal service will be held noon Thursday, Nov. 1, at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn, with a celebration of her life 1 p.m. at Washburn Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Dwayne Campbell and Bruce Blakney officiating.

Miss Jennie Mabey, of Charlottetown and Tryon, was sworn in as an Ordinary Wren Communicator in the recently re-organized Women's Royal Canadian Naval Reserve on Wednesday evening, thus becoming the first recruit for that force from P. E. I. Miss Mabey has been placed on the strength of H. M. C. S. 'Queen Charlotte.'
The brief ceremony was conducted in the Captain's Office of H.M.C.S. 'Queen Charlotte' by Captain J. J. Connolly, V.R.D., Commanding Officer of the local naval establishment, and was witnessed by C.P.O. S. G. Bowles, Chief Recruiting Officer. 
Marriage*9 December 1953 She married Paul Russel Perry on 9 December 1953 at Trinity Church, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
"Married by A. Frank MacLean. Witnessed by Georgie Mabey. Jennie was in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve and Paul was stationed on the H.M.C.S. Star in Hamilton, Ont."3
