oObit*28 March 1950  On 28 March 1950 at Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, the obituary of Lillian Elizabeth Copple read: Mrs Lillian Maybee, 35, of 70 William St., [Gouverneur], died Sunday at Edward John Noble Hospital where she had been a patient about four weeks.
Mrs Maybee was born in Liverpool, England, July 5 1914, daughter of James and Margaret Fraser Copple. She came to the United States in 1923 and lived in Talcville until 1931, On Nov 29, 1931 she was married to Harold (sic) [should be Leon] Maybee of Gouverneur. She was a member of the Una Rebekah Lodge
Surviving, besides her husband are her mother, Mrs Margaret Melrose, three sisters, Mrs Martin Hassett, Ms Margaret Mullen and Mrs Eroile Abbott of Gouverneur, and a half-brother, Hubert Melrose of Washington, D. C.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 P.M. from the Burr & Green funeral home in Park St., with the Rev. Harold A. Thomas, pastor of First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hailesboro Cemetery.3

Funeral services will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home Saturday at 2pm with the Rev. Bernard Young officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Angeles Cemetery. The Eagles Lodge will have graveside services. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Maybee, born at Edwards, NY April 18, 1881. He came west to Aberdeen in 1909 where he was a timekeeper for a logging firm until he came to Clallam County in 1911. He engaged in farming in the county until 1945 when he came to Port Angeles. He was employed at the People's Store here until his retirement 5 years ago. He married Susie M Machenheimer her Dec 6, 1911. The couple observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1961. Mr. Maybee was a member of the Eagles Aerie here 30 years. he also was a member of the Clallam County Historical Society, Golden Agers, and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Among surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Susie Maybee, daughters, Mrs. Alice Murray and Mrs. Bernice Swegle, all of Port Angeles; sons Clifford Maybee, Burlington, Washington and Edwin Maybee, Port Angeles; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.13

(Witness) Anecdote9 July 1935 The Fourth of July last week was a memorable day for Mr. and Mrs. John H. Maybee. for to them it was not only the anniversary of the Magna Charter of this country, but also their Golden Wedding day. It was in Edwards, where last week Thursday several thousand people were holding forth in a mighty old-fashioned Fourth frolic, that Clara Wood was married to John Maybee fifty years ago. She was the daughter of Silas and Laura Wood, he the son of Nelson and Eliza Poole Maybee. And last week John and Clara looked back with fond memories to those Edwards and other days, he at the age of 75 years, and she at 74.
Mr. and Mrs. Maybee resided in Edwards all the years of their early life. It was in 1910 that they came to Canton to live. Mr. Maybee purchased the Hodskin House, now the Hotel Harrington, in 1911. This he later sold. A quiet man. he nevertheless has a great liking for forging ahead. It was he who built the garage now owned by Percy Dawley.
Shortly after the death of the late Wilfred Woodhead. he purchased the lumber and coal business of Robinson & Woodhead, which he has since conducted in partnership with his son. Nelson.
During the day of July Fourth Mr. and Mrs. Maybee attended a picnic held in their honor at the Russell picnic grounds. Many relatives, including their four children and several grandchildren were present.
During the day many friends and neighbors called to offer congratulations. Gifts of money, a nice floor lamp, and baskets of beautiful flowers were received by the couple.
Among the guests attending the picnic were: Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Maybee and family. Mrs. Ralph Gardiner and daughter. Shirley, of Bergen, Mrs. Mildred McKenney, Miss Jean McKenney, Richard McKenney. Mr. and Mrs. John Gilmore and son Harold, of Dekalb. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris, Mr. and Mrs. George Maybee and son, of Oswegatchie. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Maybee, Miss Inez Maybee. Mr. Web. Maybee, of Russell. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson and Miss Ruth Brockway. of Carthage. Miss Jennie Brown, Miss Fredonia Brown, of Dekalb, Mrs. Nan Maybee. of Hermon, Mrs. Delia Maybee. of Edwards.4
