Her childhood was s spent in the village of Lafayette, where she attended the public school, afterwards completing her education at the private school of Miss. Pierce in Newton. About her fifteenth year she united with the Presbyterian Church upon confession of faith in Christ. In the Sabbath School she acted as organist and was a faithful school teacher being greatly beloved by her scholars. She was gifted with an alto voice of much power and sweetness, and solos she sang in the church services were always greatly appreciated, the last sacred song thus rendered was one that thoroughly expressed the sentiments of her soul. "The King of Love my Shepherd is, Whose goodness faileth never; I nothing lack if I am his And He is mine forever." No work for Christ in connection with His church was ever declined by her. As a daughter she was ever dutiful, and as a sister all that was affectionate and kind. To many she proved a true and trusty friend, and "Josie," as she was familiarly called, was a friend to everybody and everybody was her friend. Feb. 22nd, 1899, she was united in marriage to Frank Allen Mabee, and their married life was one of bliss, until the angel of death came to sever one of earth's happiest unions, upon Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9th. The funeral service was held at the home of the deceased. and was very largely attended. The sermon was Preached by her paster, the Rev. T. W.
