Wilkinson on 20 August 1902 at Noble County, Indiana; Calista (Wilkinson) Maybee died Aug. 30; was buried Sept. 1 at Lake View. The following was written by herself to be read after her decease: I was born Feb. 3, 1841 in North Coshocton, Steuben County, N.Y; married Alonza B. Stetson of Naples, Ontario County, N.Y., 1859. Husband started soon after to Henry County, Ill. to get a home prepared while I got ready to keep house, and one year later in 1869 joined him there, where in less than 2 years we were again separated by the cruel war. He enlisted in Aug. 1862, leaving home Sept. 15, never to return, being killed instantly by a shell near Knoxville, Tenn., leaving an infant buried in Ill. I went to Lawton, Mich., a widow with a young daughter, May, who was afterwards the wife of O. L. Hill, to live with my parents, and lived there a few years. Married George Maybee of LaGrange in 1868, having lived in northern Michigan 8 years. Returned to Kendallville in March 1891. Buried daughter May by first husband in May 1893. Had 4 children by last husband. Buried 2 sons, one eight months and one nine years old. (Two daughters survive.) Having written this Aug. 20, 1902, I joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church when 15 years old.11 |

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. John H. Butler, of the Methodist Episcopal church, and burial was made in Grandview cemetery. Her maiden name was Jessie Jane Maybee, and she was born September 7, 1893, at Greenville, Pa. She was married on April 11, 1911, at Bergholz, to Mr. Duke, who survives with two children, Maude M, aged 7, and Eva L, aged 3-yrs. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Maybee, reside at Harlem, and surviving brothers are George and Roy Maybee, Canton, and Lawrence Maybee, Alliance.11 |

oObit* | 20 August 1902 | On 20 August 1902 at Noble County, Indiana, the obituary of Calista E. Wilkinson read: Calista (Wilkinson) Maybee died Aug. 30; was buried Sept. 1 at Lake View. The following was written by herself to be read after her decease: I was born Feb. 3, 1841 in North Coshocton, Steuben County, N.Y; married Alonza B. Stetson of Naples, Ontario County, N.Y., 1859. Husband started soon after to Henry County, Ill. to get a home prepared while I got ready to keep house, and one year later in 1869 joined him there, where in less than 2 years we were again separated by the cruel war. He enlisted in Aug. 1862, leaving home Sept. 15, never to return, being killed instantly by a shell near Knoxville, Tenn., leaving an infant buried in Ill. I went to Lawton, Mich., a widow with a young daughter, May, who was afterwards the wife of O. L. Hill, to live with my parents, and lived there a few years. Married George Maybee of LaGrange in 1868, having lived in northern Michigan 8 years. Returned to Kendallville in March 1891. Buried daughter May by first husband in May 1893. Had 4 children by last husband. Buried 2 sons, one eight months and one nine years old. (Two daughters survive.) Having written this Aug. 20, 1902, I joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church when 15 years old.8 |
